ThermaHive V2 Heater Insert

The 500W PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) ceramic heating element is inherently self-regulating. Its electrical resistance increases as it heats up, which naturally limits power draw and prevents thermal runaway without any additional circuitry. The ThermaHive Controller still governs the treatment profile, but the PTC element adds a built-in layer of safety at the heat source itself.

The Heater Insert connects to the Bottom Treatment Frame via a magnetic locking system, with no screws, clamps or straps. It seats securely during treatment and releases cleanly when you’re done. Moving it to a different hive takes seconds. If you have multiple hives equipped with Bottom Treatment Frames, a single Heater Insert can rotate through all of them.

One Heater Insert with one controller treats one hive at a time. Add a second Heater Insert, along with a second controller (Top Box), and you can run two full treatments simultaneously on separate hives. This is the most efficient configuration for larger apiaries where mite pressure means you need multiple hives treated at once, not one after another.

The Heater Insert doesn’t operate on its own. It works in tandem with the ThermaHive Controller (Top Box), which holds its setpoint from a wireless anchor sensor inside the brood nest and switches heat output through a single relay. The heater assembly carries its own factory overheat protection independent of the controller, a 100°C cutout and a 112°C thermal fuse installed by the manufacturer, so it protects the hive whether or not the controller is alive. The controller maintains your target treatment temperature throughout the session and logs every data point to the SD card. The Heater Insert is the muscle; the controller is the brain.
